Tell us about your family and where you live:
I grew up in Newdale, ID, population 300. It's a metropolis! (Go potatoes!) There is at least 1000 acres of farmland for every one person! :)
After finishing school at BYU-I, Shannon I and moved back to St. Louis. (Shannon grew up in Columbia, IL, it was a prenuptial we would move here!) We lived in Crestwood for several years, then Chesterfield, now Wildwood.
Shannon and I have 5 boys, they just kept coming! Bennett (13), Max (11), Harry (8), Oliver (5), Finley (2)
What you like about working for NPS
You know that comfy chair that fits you just right, or that perfectly warm blanket. That is what it’s like to work at NPS. Comfy and warm!
I feel like this is where I belong. Hope Dana does for a very long time too!
My favorite thing has to be meeting with each client, learning about their needs and working together to find solutions. We do great design on all of our projects and many projects have similar elements countertops, cabinets, tile etc. BUT each project has one or two elements that makes the project! Those interesting elements and/or unique challenges are what we get up early and stay late for!
Something you think we would not know about you
I have survived an avalanche and a night stranded alone in a snow cave (separate occasions!) now who can say that?!
Your work history.
NPS- Project Development
Big Bend Electric- Solar installer
HomeFix- Owner
Pricewaterhouse Coopers- Auditor
Design school. Why did you go into design?
Graduated with an accounting degree! I can make awesome kitchens and Excel spreadsheets too!
Although I didn't graduate in design, what I enjoy contributing to the team is problem solving. Sounds cliche I know, but it is true. We love tackling interesting design/installation issues and creating beautiful and function spaces.
Your job description, what you do for company on a typical day. Some in the company may not know.
I have given myself the title of "Lord Business" (reference to the Lego Movie). Downside is that many people haven't seen the show so, its lost on them! Dana says
My typical day starts with phone calls on existing projects, driving to meet new clients or to the office. Outside of consultations, large amounts of my time are spent working with Rochelle and Dana on design and Luke on budgeting and defining scopes.
Pet peeves?
Can't understand why new toilet paper rolls are sitting on the back of a toilet, or the countertop when there is an empty roll in the TP holder. I have actually timed how long it takes to switch them out -less than 5 seconds! Just take the empty roll, throw it in the trash, put the new roll on. (maybe this only happens at the Robinson household :)
Anything else?
Its mid-April and we are out like a shot gun. Last year NPS saw lots of exciting projects and growth. We have an amazing team! Everyone works hard, treats the company like their own and pulls off amazing feats regularly! Every day is an awesome experience!
